Notice: this tutorial will require a basic understanding of TinkerCAD. You can start here, if you’re new!

The first step in creating your CAD model is to find a floorplan you like. For this project, I’m using this one.

This is super important: Stay as close to the given measurements as possible!

First, lay out the outside of your house, as shown:

Colors won’t matter if you plan to print, so you can edit all of that later! I changed colors throughout this tutorial for a better viewing experience.

Now, you’re gonna want to hollow out the inside:

Now is a great time to change the color, and start making rooms on the inside:

Now it’s time to get started on the doors! The floor plan I used did not have measurements for this, so when this happens it’s best to take creative liberty and do what you think makes most sense.

Now that I’ve done the doors, I like to touch up all the nooks and crannies! This means bathrooms, closets, pantries, etc!

Now here’s the exciting part! The roof! This can get kind of tricky. First, cut down a small portion of the top inside walls. Then, place a rectangle shape on top, creating a sort of lid! Now you can use triangles to make the roof on top of that. Finally, clean up any rough edges, group the roof parts together, and lay it to the side of the house for printing.

And there you go! You just created a 3D Model of a house that’s ready for printing!
